If so, I'm concerned about the case where that bit is never set/unset, since this case is not handled by the code. Also, you can fix udelay(2000) to mdelay(2), but this sort of wait-for-bit should prefferably use get_timer() instead. > + for (i = 0; i < 1000; i++) { > + if (ocp_read_word(tp, MCU_TYPE_PLA, PLA_TCR0) & TCR0_TX_EMPTY) > + break; > + udelay(2000); > + } > + > + rtl8152_nic_reset(tp); > +} [...] > +static void r8152b_firmware(struct r8152 *tp) > +{ > + if (tp->version == RTL_VER_01) { > + int i; > + static u8 pla_patch_a[] = { > + 0x08, 0xe0, 0x40, 0xe0, > + 0x78, 0xe0, 0x85, 0xe0, [...] I think it might be better to pull this firmware blob into either a separate header file or into global variable. Had you run "usb start" before that point? If so, you should have quoted the output from the first run instead. You could also run "usb reset" to force a re-enumeration. I'd expect something like the following to be printed (albeit with different driver names) Tegra210 (P2371-2180) # usb start starting USB... USB0: USB EHCI 1.10 scanning bus 0 for devices... 2 USB Device(s) found scanning usb for storage devices... 0 Storage Device(s) found scanning usb for ethernet devices... Warning: asx0 using MAC address from net device 1 Ethernet Device(s) found The fact that "usb info" shows the device is a good start; USB communication is obviously working. Perhaps you simply don't have the right config options enabled for base networking support, and/or the RTL8152 driver, or similar? I have at least the following set in include/configs/p2371-2180.h: #define CONFIG_USB_HOST_ETHER #define CONFIG_USB_ETHER_ASIX #define CONFIG_USB_ETHER_RTL8152 as well as the typical "defaults" headers. "DM" etc. is enabled in arch/arm/mach-tegra/Kconfig.

The "temporary" solution is to run "usb start" and "usb reset" afterwards. So you need to run: "usb start" "usb reset" "usb info" I'm working on this issue now. > The fact that your "usb start" didn't print anything at all is a bit > odd. Isn't that just going to slow us down? I don't think DM is activated everywhere for Ethernet yet is it? I can't see why it'd slow us down. The non-DM code should be quite static, and only have any effect on DM conversion whenever we finally pull the trigger to remove it. It shouldn't be any kind of maintenance issue in the interim.

If we add new features to the 'old world' then there is a temptation for boards to stay there, which slows the entire migration process. Why convert your board to driver model if all the shiny new drivers you want work without it? We can only remove the old code for a subsystem when every board that uses it is either converted or moved. Adding a new driver that does not use driver model may add a board that uses it. That's one more conversion to do and one more hurdle to jump. We will be much more successful if we avoid adding new features to pre-driver-model code. Regards, Simon

It's just one more file to apply a fairly mechanical conversion to. Either way, Ted, you'll definitely need to supply /me/ a version of the driver that's cleaned up according to the review comments here and works without DM_ETH (for use by the Linux4Tegra U-Boot), even if that's a different patch than what gets applied upstream. It's probably simplest if you get a patch accepted upstream that matches only upstream requirements, then add back non-DM support once that's accepted and send the resulting patch to me. Thanks.
