The ATC260x family of PMICs integrates Audio Codec, Power management,
Clock generation and GPIO controller blocks. There are currently 3
variants: ATC2603A, ATC2603C and ATC2609A.

This is re-spin of the v1 patch series submitted some time ago by
Mani, who provided the MFD and regulator drivers for ATC2609A:
https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/20190617155011.15376-1-manivannan.sadhasivam@linaro.org/

Since v2, I added support for ATC2603C, together with some new
functionalities for both chips: power controller and onkey input.
The ATC2603A chip type remains unsupported for the moment.

This has been tested on RoseapplePi, a SBC based on the Action Semi S500
SoC, which integrates the ATC2603C variant of the PMIC.

Note that enabling the ATC260x PMICs on compatible Actions Semi Owl SoC
based boards depends on:

* the Actions Semi SIRQ driver (for PMIC DTS setup), merged in v5.10:
  https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/cover.1600114378.git.cristian.ciocaltea@gmail.com/

* the atomic transfers in Owl I2C driver (for power controller), queued for v5.11:
  https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/cover.1602190168.git.cristian.ciocaltea@gmail.com/

Additionally, please note that I have taken the authorship for the MFD
and regulator drivers patches, considering the original code has been
modified to a large extent.

Thanks,
Cristi

Changes in v3:
- Integrated feedback from Mani, Rob, Mark, Sebastian, Dmitry
- Fixed issues reported by Lee's kernel test robot
- Added new patch for 'reset-time-sec' DT binding property
- Rebased patchset on v5.10-rc6

Changes in v2:
- Reworked MFD core & I2C driver
  * Integrated Lee's feedback
  * Added support for using the regmap within atomic contexts
  * Added support for ATC2603C chip variant
  * Reorganized KConfig entries
- Improved regulator driver
  * Added support for ATC2603C variant
  * Used helper macros for more compact specification of regulator_desc items
  * Added more regulator capabilities
- Added power controller driver
  * Provides system poweroff/reboot functionalities
  * Depends on atomic transfers in the Owl I2C driver
- Added onkey driver: exposes the power button as an input device
- Added yaml binding doc
- Rebased patchset on kernel v5.9-rc1

Please merge with the rest through MFD I suppose.

Thanks.

No reason not to include LDO12 here, the framework supports fixed
regulators fine and the bindings should reflect the physical structure
of the hardware - if something is being supplied by LDO12 on the PMIC
then you'd expect the binding showing a connection from LDO12.

Totally agree, I will handle this in the next revision.

Will this ever not be required?

If it will always be required, you can drop the if().

This still seems limiting.

This is still inefficient.

Why not use devm_*?

Drop this return and always return ret at the end.

No need to do this, since you used devm_*.

If you use devm_* you can omit this too.

I think you can drop the (void *) casts.

Please remove the /* sentinel */ comment, we know what NULL
terminators do.

Not sure I've seen kerneldoc used on prototypes before.

Probably better to move them onto the real functions.

Hi Lee,

Thank you for the detailed review!

I will prepare a new revision, but there are still a couple of open
points..

It is declared in 'include/linux/kernel.h':

extern enum system_states {
	SYSTEM_BOOTING,
	SYSTEM_SCHEDULING,
	SYSTEM_RUNNING,
	SYSTEM_HALT,
	SYSTEM_POWER_OFF,
	SYSTEM_RESTART,
	SYSTEM_SUSPEND,
} system_state;

The definition is in 'init/main.c':

enum system_states system_state __read_mostly;
EXPORT_SYMBOL(system_state);

Currently this is always mandatory, so I dropped the 'if' clause.

This is based on the vendor implementation. Unfortunately I don't have
access to a data sheet or any other source of information about the
management of the chip revisions.

Please see above.

Right, I replaced it with 'devm' counterpart.

Now 'atc260x_device_remove()' function is not needed anymore, so I
dropped it.

Without the cast, I get the following compiler warning:

drivers/mfd/atc260x-i2c.c:46:46: warning: initialization of ‘const void *’
from ‘int’ makes pointer from integer without a cast [-Wint-conversion]
  { .compatible = "actions,atc2603c", .data = ATC2603C },

Could you please snip your replies, leaving only the open points.

Scrolling through lots of empty quotes or "done" comments is quite
time consuming.  Thanks.

Ah, it's a system wide thing. No problem.

So which versions does this driver work with? All 32?

Perhaps I'm getting confused with addresses of things. Never mind.

I'm not even sure there are so many revisions, I guess that's just a
rough validation for a vendor reserved range.

For the moment, the only place where the functionality is affected
by the chip revision is in the regulator driver - there is a special
handling for the ATC2603C rev.B chip variant.

I expect some additional handling might be required for new drivers
bringing support for the other functions provided by the hardware.

The current patch seems to insinuate that 32 versions are currently
supported. What is the chip_rev for the ATC2603C rev.B?

I only own the rev.A for the ATC2603C variant, for which I read '0' from
the chip rev register.

However what really matters for the driver is not the raw value, but the
one computed via:

atc260x->ic_ver = __ffs(chip_rev + 1U);

This is basically a translation of the raw value to a chip version
that is used in the context of the special handling mentioned above:

enum atc260x_ver {
	ATC260X_A = 0,
	ATC260X_B,
	ATC260X_C,
	ATC260X_D,
	ATC260X_E,
	ATC260X_F,
	ATC260X_G,
	ATC260X_H,
};

So we actually could handle up to 8 chip versions with the current
management scheme.

This makes it look like the driver is actually so generic that it makes space
for all revisions back to ATC2603A which is in the Ainol Hero 10 tablet.

This is nice because there are millions of these devices (especially in
China) that people want to get to run the latest Linux.

I even wonder how much different the ATM7029 is from S500, I suspect
not super much apart from the ARM cores.

Good work overall! I'll be happy to deal with the GPIO
driver when you get there.

For ATC2603A we need an SPI driver, currently only the I2C interface is
supported.

Cannot tell, for the moment I can only "play" with the S500..

Great, thanks!
