From: Boris Brezillon <boris.brezillon@free-electrons.com>

This is part of the process of removing direct calls to ->cmdfunc()
outside of the core in order to introduce a better interface to execute
NAND operations.

Here we provide several helpers and make use of them to remove all
direct calls to ->cmdfunc(). This way, we can easily modify those
helpers to make use of the new ->exec_op() interface when available.

I found a few more call-sites that should be patched (see this diff

Please rename this parameter ooboffs or something that clarifies the
fact that this offset is relative to the start of the OOB area and not
the start of the page.

Does this change keep the equivalent behavior?

Changing NAND_STATUS_FAIL to -EIO is OK
(but, not mentioned in the git-log)

I am not 100% sure about
  INTR__ERASE_COMP  ->  INTR__ERASE_FAIL.

Theoretically, there could be three cases:
  [1] INTR__ERASE_COMP interrupt is asserted
  [2] INTR__ERASE_FAIL interrupt is asserted
  [3] Nothing is asserted (bailout by timeout)

If you change this, I must consult our hardware engineers
whether [3] happens or not in erase operation.

Yep, because the core is patched accordingly, and all implementers of
->erase() (docg4, nand_base and denali) are now returning 0 in case of
success and -EERROR in case of failure.

You're right, we should probably move this change in a separate patch.

We'll keep the old test then:

	return irq_status & INTR__ERASE_COMP ? 0 : -EIO;

Well, ideally we should have something like:

	if (irq_status & INTR__ERASE_COMP)
		return 0;
	else if (irq_status & INTR__ERASE_FAIL)
		return -EIO;

	return -ETIMEDOUT;

But let's keep the existing behavior (return -EIO in case of timeout).

Thanks,

Boris

I agree with this change,
but it should also be done in a separate work.

Ok, I will stick to Boris' first solution and put this aside.

Patches will come very soon.

Thank you both,
