To give some more context as to why, I recently came across [1] again
during am internal discussion about GPL compliance. Harald suggests that

"
It matters who has which title and when. Should somebody not be an
active maintainer, make sure he's not listed as such.
"

So the question is, should I stick around by title only or not ?

I agree with Harald statement, the MTD maintainer list was too big for
just a few active people actually maintaining the subsystem. This does
not mean you, David and Brian cannot contribute anymore. It just means
that you are not actively maintaining the code base on a daily basis
anymore even if you will continue to be present, contribute, and review.

Thanks for starting the move, please keep in mind that we all thank you
(the three of you) for all the work you have done and the effort
you've put in building and maintaining MTD. Brian, David, what would be
your input on this?

Kind regards,
Miquèl
